The speech of the stone

The speech of the stone presents a perception of the historical area in Jeddah Al-Balad

through sound and the important local memory it carries, assuming that the walls have the ability to store the voices of those who lived in the city over the years.

The artist employs a unique method of abstraction in this practice. She transforms them into common visual (images) in the collective imagination of the local community using an innovative notation process in which coding allows the formation of sound waves and the creation of rhythmic visual conditions and a system for the growth of forms

Through an innovative notation process in which coding allows the formation of sound waves and the creation of rhythmic visual conditions and a system for the growth of forms, I transform them into common visuals (images) in the collective imagination of the local community.

Each drawing presents a set of characteristics that appear in the form of different sound waves, and the work shows a tension between performance and perfection, especially since the lines are mathematical in nature. The lines are characterized by the complexity resulting from repetition, and continuous movement between different densities of the black color, while the form of the completed fabric appears to be a landmark of the country.

This pairing is a sensory metaphor to describe a special vision of the parts of the city with a different dimension based on the vocal identity of the city, as soon as you look at it, you find it uttering and secretly revealing all the forgotten stories that did not find a way for it to be recorded, as it remained a voice hidden in the stones waiting for us to immortalize it.
